This is one of the coolest cosplay outfits ever, no joke

Cosplay is very popular around the world, especially during game, comic and book conventions, no matter how much some people jeer at practitioners.

The greatest part of cosplaying is making your very own suit, however. And a particularly dedicated fan of Metroid Prime has proven to be very creative and talented indeed.

See the character Samus Aran in the attached photos? That's not actually Samus Aran, it's a fan cosplaying as the protagonist. In a suit made by one young woman by the name of Chelsea.

She made the Varia Suit herself, through liberal use of the 3D printing technology, specifically Zcorp 450 3D printers owned by a friend of hers.

Sure, it took over 100 hours of post-processing and hundreds of hours of actually printing the various components, but the end result is a work of art. We would even see it fitting perfectly with other props on a studio set.

Once Chelsea had all the pieces, she hunkered down and glued them together, after which she applied a thin coat of Bondo to fill the grooves left by the 3D printing process on the surface of the “plating.” FDM 3D printing isn't perfect, as you well know, and leaves lines/ridges on the surface.

All that was left was to apply a primer, which she did and voila! The Samus Aram Varia Suit in all its glory.
