In small scale of course, but they look great

Sailing may not exactly qualify as a hobby, but it's possible to like boats and ships without having to be a sailor as well. That's something Makerbot knows well, as evident from its latest project.

Makerbot is one of the best known names on the 3D printing market, having created some of the best 3D printers and used them to produce some of the most famous objects in this field.

The latest collection of items is composed of five ships that were quite well known in their time.

The Sao Cristovao, for example, was the first to sail around the whole of Africa. The Bao Chuan explored the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean in the 15th century. The Trinidad is pretty famous too, having been part of Magellan's voyage around the globe.

Then there's the Drakkar, which turned Captain Leif Erikson into the first European to step foot onto the soil of North America.

Finally, The Endeavor carried Captain James Cook and his crew all the way to New Zealand, Australia, Tahiti, and even Antarctica.

Each ship is made of several pieces you have to 3D print separately and subsequently assemble. One boat sells for $9.99 / €7.90 – €9.99, but the full set of five ships for $24.99 / €24.99 – €19.78.

Of course, if your 3D printer doesn't have the best quality, you might have to get creative when polishing/smoothing out the printed pieces.
