The interesting thing though - Sony reveals that the machine is cheaper to make now

Wait a minute, I thought the PS2 was history... Guess I was wrong. According to MaxConsole, Sony has started shipping a lighter by 300 grams PlayStation 2, also acknowledging that the AC adapter has also been cut in terms of weight. However, the most interesting thing about the whole deal would be that all this is occurring not only due to a reduction in the number of parts, but also due to a general drop in the cost of production. Say wha...?

So then, why doesn't every gaming site out there have a piece entitled "PS2 Price Cut Soon?" Beats me, but here's what the blokes over at MaxConsole wrote and I reckon they're not lying:

"...today Japan's Nikkei Business Daily has confirmed such an occurrence. Sony has begun shipping a new PSTwo model which drops in weight from 900 to 600 grams with the AC adapter also being cut in terms of weight, coming in at 250 grams as opposed to 350 previously. The paper indicates the weight loss was achieved via a reduction in the number of parts as well as a general drop in the cost of production."

The mentioned site too asks (rhetorically) whether there's a price cut in order for the old consoles or not, but really now, isn't it obvious? I mean, why would Sony even think of revealing that making the PS2 is cheaper now, if they didn't have plans of making it an even more affordable machine than it already is?

I for one am amazed at what this PlayStation 2 has managed to achieve for the company. Seven years and it still rocks...! Some guys over at Evil Avatar are only now thinking of getting one. Let's face it, as soon as a machine gets a substantial price reduction, it becomes attractive that instant. Let's hope it translates to the PS3 too.
