Customers leveraging Visual Studio LightSwitch 2011 RTM to build business applications can enter a contest designed to reward efficient and innovative projects.

Visual Studio LightSwitch 2011 is a new version of Visual Studio from Microsoft, designed to streamline the development of business applications for the desktop or the Cloud.

Available as of the end of July 2011, Visual Studio LightSwitch 2011 RTM comes with a price tag of $299, but a free trial release is available to users that want to give the product a try before actually acquiring it.

The Visual Studio LightSwitch 2011 RTM trail is all that customers need in order to build apps which they can subsequently submit to the LightSwitch Star Contest, from the Code Project and the LightSwitch Team.

Prizes will be handed out in two categories, Most Efficient Business Application and Most Ground-breaking Business Application.

In addition to the monthly prizes, an ASUS UL30VT-X1K Laptop will be handed out as the Grand Prize for each category when the contest closes.

“We're looking for submissions that show off LightSwitch's productivity and/or extensibility. Prove that LightSwitch saved your business the most time and money. Or show us the amazing things you can do with LightSwitch's extensibility model. Answer the questions in the submission template to convince us,” a message on the contest’s page reveals.

“Judging will be made by both CodeProject and the LightSwitch Team. The community will also greatly influence our decision as we look at community comments and ratings on each of the submissions.”

Participants can either write an article or create a video as their entries. In both cases, submission templates are available for download via the official site for the LightSwitch Star Contest.

The challenge is opened to customers worldwide, with the exception of those in Quebec, Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria.
