14 DAY TRIAL // Lian Li is really pulling all the stops in its mission to provide all sorts of prospective buyers with the best case for their situation, even if it means building models that only a handful of people will ever buy.
The name of the newest chassis is PC-D8000. It's a standard name, with nothing all that unusual about it, and nothing to suggest why Lian Li would make a fuss about it.
As it happens, there is definitely a reason to make uproar, or at least a small measure of noise: the number of supported storage units.
The newcomer is large enough to fit up to twenty 3.5-inch hard drive units. And no, that is not an exaggeration. Even though the enclosure obviously has six 5.25-inch bays, it still makes space for that many platter spinners, or solid-state drives with mounting Brackets.
The depth of the PC-D8000 is the key here: 628 mm, or 24.72 inches. Speaking of which, the width is of 405 mm (15.94 inches) and the height is of 572 mm (22.51 inches). Indeed. This is a case over half a meter tall.
In addition to 20 HDD bays, the newcomer has a detachable motherboard tray and similar build on the expansion card tray, enabling such things to be installed outside the main body. Add-in boards can be up to 410 mm long (16 inches).
Other features include 18 spots where 140mm fans can be installed, two power supply compartments and support for not just ATX but also HPTX motherboards (EVGA Classified SR-X Dual-Socket LGA 2011 is one of the few examples).
The press photos of Lian Li's PC-D800 giant case emerged on Overclockers Ukraine. Those interested in getting it, whenever it arrives, should know that they will have to put effort into moving it (its weight is 26 lbs / 13 kg). European retailers are accepting pre-orders for 329 Euro ($329 – 428 Euro), so buyers should check with them if they think they might get lucky and find it there.
