It has more storage space and better cooling than its predecessors

Lian Li crawled its way into our hearts back when it revealed that creepy-crawly which we took to calling the Crimson Spider instead of its real name, Pitstop PC-T1.

That was over two years ago though, so the company has had a lot of time to launch newer, although somehow not any weirder, cases.

The PC-Q09 and PC-Q09F HTPC enclosures are two of the models most relevant to our current subject of discussion, though only by proxy.

The product we are really concerned with right now is the PC-Q09FN.

This is a new, mini-ITX chassis for HTPCs (short for home-theater personal computers).

The shape is in no way unorthodox. This is your average, run off the mill box, albeit one with more room for storage than its aforementioned forebears.

The exact size is 11.65 x 5.51 x 7.48 inches W x H x D, which is the same as 296mm x 140mm x 190mm, give or take.

One 3.5-inch HDD bay exists, along with a removable cage that can hold up to three 2.5-inch storage devices. An optical disk drive bay is there as well (5.2-inch).

That said, the side panels can be easily removed, and so can whatever 3.5-inch HDD users happen to buy. The latter advantage is owed to Lian Li's decision to use thumbscrews. That those screws have rubber suspension and minimize vibrations, and, thus, noise, is just a side benefit.

Other features include a pair of USB 3.0 ports on the front panel, a 300W 80Plus power supply and brushed aluminum finish.

Prospective buyers will have to part with about $149.99, or 114.30 Euro, according to exchange rates. A rear 120 mm Fan is included in the cost.

Before buying the case, people should consider that the maximum CPU cooler height is 50 cm. Finally, there are two colors one can choose from: black and silver.
