Mel Gibson is vindicated: after he was dropped from “Hangover 2” and replaced with Liam Neeson, director Todd Phillips is now forced to look for a replacement for the latter as well, since it became clear that his cameo is simply not happening.

Gibson was first attached to the upcoming comedy for a cameo but, in a matter of days after the announcement, it became clear that the members of the cast were not ok with the idea, given the scandal with his ex, Oksana Grigorieva.

Pressed by the film’s stars, Phillips replaced Gibson with Neeson, much to the disappointment and outrage of Gibson’s fans, who claimed the director was biased and doing Mel an injustice.

Now, Neeson too is out of the picture, TMZ has learned.

“The director who wanted Mel Gibson for the sequel to ‘The Hangover’ – and then changed his mind and humiliated him by dropping him from the project – has changed his mind yet again... and now Liam Neeson is out of the role originally slated for Mel in the first place,” the e-zine says.

“Phillips’ fickle finger struck again and the director decided he wanted Neeson to re-shoot his role” after he was done with it, says the report.

As it happens, Neeson can’t play by Phillips’ rules for the simple reason that his agenda is very busy these days.

“Sadly, planning wasn’t Todd’s strong suit and Liam couldn’t re-shoot his role because he was already filming ‘Clash of the TItans 2.’ The cursed role has been given to actor Nick Cassavetes... for now,” TMZ points out.

As if that wasn’t enough, it seems that “The Hangover 2” got off to a rather shaky start in theaters as well, from where the first full trailer has been yanked because it did not get rating from the MPAA, as we also informed you a few days ago.

A new trailer is slated to come out this week, on April 15.
