Lexar Media is a world renowned vendor of memory products, including memory cards for professional users and high-performance, NAND Flash-based storage solutions such as USB sticks. On that note, the company has just announced the debut of its new Lexar Professional 600x CompactFlash (CF) card, a storage solution aimed to meet the requirements of professional photographers and photo enthusiasts that makes use of the latest digital SLRs to capture high-definition images and videos. According to the maker, the fresh memory card is capable of enabling today's high-end cameras to provide users with a boost of performance, allowing for images to be captured faster than before.

“Photographers are constantly demanding more from their equipment, and an increase in image capture speeds paired with a decrease in image transfer times can mean the world to a professional shooter,” said Jeff Cable, director of marketing, Lexar Media. “The combined solution of our new Professional 600x CF card and Professional ExpressCard CompactFlash reader is the next step in CF memory technology and will provide photographers with the speeds and performance they need to capture the best shots and improve their imaging workflow. When shooting with newer cameras like the Canon EOS 7D, Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Nikon D3x or Nikon D300S, professionals can capture more images per second and hundreds of JPEG files without pausing to clear their cameras’ buffers.”

The new Lexar CF memory card has been designed to provide customers with support for 8GB, 16GB and 32GB capacities, while performance specifications include minimum sustained read and write speeds of 80MB/s and 90MB/s, respectively, granted the cards are paired with a UDMA 6-enabled device. Lexar also announced that it's preparing to release the Professional ExpressCard CompactFlash reader, designed to support both UDMA and non-UDMA CF cards and connect to laptops via an ExpressCard slot. The device is expected to enable transfer speeds of up to 133MB/s.

Said to arrive on October 22, the day when Microsoft's Windows 7 launches, the Professional 600x CF cards will be available in 8GB and 16GB models for prices of US$200 and US$300, respectively. The 32GB model is expected to become available in November.
