While most manufacturers of motherboards, graphics cards and memory kits have their hands full with making hardware compatible and especially capable when combined with the new six-core CPUs and DirectX 11 graphics cards, Lexar Media is more focused on the enterprise market. In fact, the company has been working on a new type of memory module that will provide servers with groundbreaking amounts of energy-efficient memory.

Intel officially showcased not so long ago its latest Nehalem-based Xeon processors for data centers and server configurations. The newest memory module developed by Lexar Media, a Crucial-branded VLP (very low profile) RIMM (registered dual in-line memory module), is designed specifically for such installations.

The memory module has a capacity of 8GB and a clock speed of 1,066MHz with CL9 latencies. This performance is combined with the advantage of compactness (will allow individual systems to take up less space and, thus, provide greater scalability) and energy efficiency (consumes only 1.5V during operation.

Basically, on blade and low-profile servers, these modules will allow the total memory capacity to reach all the way up to 144GB, thus improving virtualization performance.

“Our customers continue to adopt high-density computing solutions like blade servers, not only as they upgrade existing applications and platforms, but also as they adopt technologies like virtualization. The new 8GB Crucial DDR3-1066 VLP RDIMMs enable them to move to these solutions without compromising memory density, performance, or quality," Jim Jardine, Lexar Media senior worldwide product manager, said.

The new 8GB VLP RIMM is already available through select resellers and online at www.crucial.com/eu/server, www.crucial.com/uk/server and www.crucial.com/server. The same links contain details on how to participate in the Crucial Reliance Program, which includes limited lifetime warranties, an optional on-site spares program and dedicated toll-free support.
