The owner lost the camera in a shipwreck and he never thought he would see it again

Here’s an interesting survival story you don’t hear every day. Vancouver-based Paul Burgoyne was shipwrecked off the west coast of Vancouver Island back in 2012 and, as a result, lost his camera.

But two years later students from the Marine Sciences Center poking at the bottom of the ocean, managed to stumble upon the Panasonic TZ7 hiding at 12 m / 472 inches under water, says 43rumors.

The surprise came afterwards when the group realized the Lexar Platinum II 8GB memory card remained unharmed and was still carrying the pictures that were taken with the camera before the fatidic incident.

The group shared one of the images found on board of the Panasonic on Twitter, in an effort to locate the owner.

On top of providing this unexpected surprise, the camera offered some insights into marine life.

“According to Isabelle M. Côté, Professor of Marine Ecology at Simon Fraser University, there were multiple marine specifies, from two kingdoms and at least seven phyla, living on the camera when it was found.”

More than that, there’s even a video shot with the camera, before the ship went below the surface of the ocean.

The story sounds pretty incredible, but it will certainly provide a hefty boost for Panasonic’s reputation.
