Lexar Media's latest Crucial-branded memory products might just end up gaining most of the attention given to them thanks not to their actual specs, but because of their unusual led lighting.

It seems that Crucial is paying special attention to those enthusiasts that like their systems to be colorful on the inside, not just the outside.

Normally, in order to turn a system into one that stands out, all it takes is a few led light on the inside of a case, plus a side window for the light to be visible, besides the obligatory less-than-common case and hardware of course.

Still, some of the ones more attentive to detail like to take things even further, and Lexar Media just pushed a bit closer to the limit of customizability.

Basically, its newest collection of Ballistix memory products, dubbed Crucial Ballistix Smart Tracer, has customizable LED lights.

What this means is that the heatspreaders have LEDs on them, of multiple colors, which can then be set up in color patterns via the Ballistix MOD software utility.

“At Crucial, we know that our gaming and PC enthusiasts are all about performance and play, and the new Crucial Ballistix Smart Tracer modules rise to the challenge,” said Jeremy Mortenson, Crucial Ballistix DRAM product manager.

“The integrated heat sensors allow real-time temperature monitoring for peak performance, while the customizable LEDs add a level of personalization never before seen on a memory module. Together, this form and function adds up to serious fun,” he added.

Of course, this much work on aesthetics would be wasted on just any memory products, hence why the company prepared a complete lineup.

For example, there are two 2 GB modules (1,600 MHz, CL8, 1.65V), with orange/blue and red/green LEDs, respectively, priced at $59.99, each.

These two modules can be combined in two 4 GB kits (orange/blue and red/green) as well as two triple channel 6 GB one, with the same respective color schemes.
