For a price no lower than $2,500 per year, IT infrastructures can be Splunked via the beta version of Splunk 2.1.; San Francisco-based Splunk has revealed via a press release the immediate availability for download of its log and IT data search engine.

Splunk 2.1 is designed to deliver an indexing speed ranging from 20,000 to 120,000 events per second per server, but Splunk servers can be bundled together to enable unlimited indexing speed. An interactive AJAX web-based GUI enables the centralization of multiple data centers on different Splunk servers, via the solutions distributed search feature. Alongside scalability, Splunk's storage management has been optimized and now the log and IT data search engine can be administered via a web based interface.

"Enterprises are dealing with mountains of data," said Jasmine Noel, technology analyst at Ptak, Noel & Associates. "Finding the cause of a problem in terabytes of data can use up costly resources. Splunk is continuing to set the standard for log and IT data search with faster indexing, real-time search and lower storage requirements, making troubleshooting easier for companies with large datasets across many different systems and technologies."

"Splunk 2.1 is dramatically expanding the ability to indexing log and IT data across the enterprise," said Michael Baum, Chief Executive Splunker. "Our customers see log and IT data as an asset rather than a daunting avalanche of data. With the insight Splunk brings, developers, system administrators, security analysts and operations managers are regaining control of their data centers."
