How can one tell that there are not too many huge videogame releases coming? Take a look at the United Kingdom chart and see whether Just Dance from Ubisoft is still on top, fending off the challenge of all other titles. It's unlikely that the situation will change very soon as most publishers are preparing for a period of lighter launches over the summer which will then lead into the all important fall launch period.

Just Dance is a phenomenon in the United Kingdom, a rhythm game that attracts a wide variety of gamers with its simple to learn mechanics and popular soundtrack. Second place went to Battlefield: Bad Company 2, the first person shooter from DICE and Electronic Arts, which managed to gain one place and seems to have quite a lasting appeal thanks to its multiplayer. Third place went to Just Cause 2, a game launched by Square Enix under the Eidos name, an open world game which is built around creating chaos with guns but also with a tether gun and a parachute. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 from Infinity Ward and Activision is sitting pretty well at number four, about six months after it was initially launched.

Wii Sports Resort from Nintendo has managed to gain one place and land in fifth while Wii Fit Plus, another Wii exclusive, managed an even bigger jump to number six coming in from nine. Nintendo also managed to take over seventh place in the United Kingdom top ten, with Pokemon Soul Silver for the DS line up of handhelds.

Meanwhile, FIFA 10 from EA Sports is also showing lasting appeal and continues to sit in eighth place while Pokemon Heart Gold is in ninth. New Super Mario Bros for the Wii continues to bring up the rear in tenth place. Aliens vs. Predator and the new Sonic racing game are still outside the top ten.
