The present day man has become more and more dependent on its smartphone for all sort of things, Quest Diagnostics just announcing the introduction of its Gazelle a secure mobile health platform that allows users to receive their Quest Diagnostics laboratory results and manage their personal health information directly from the phone, further increasing our dependence on these devices.

Available right now for Apple's iPhone as well as for the BlackBerry, the application allows users to see, store and share their vital health information such as laboratory test results, medical history or insurance details.

An optional wallet card instructing Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel how to access Gazelle in the event of an emergency, is also available as well as a mobile appointment scheduling application that allows patients to either enter their zip code to find a local Quest Diagnostics location, or to use the smartphone's GPS to display the next available appointment times at the closes Quest locations.

Furthermore, Quest also states they want to add new features to the Quest platform, including integration with other health devices, medical reminders or compatibility with third-party health applications.

Android support is also coming sometime in the not so distant future, so Quest should prove to be pretty platform agnostic managing to cover some of the most popular mobile operating systems available right now.

"Quest Diagnostics is committed to empowering patients with the vital information they need in order to take personal responsibility for their health," said Surya N. Mohapatra, Ph.D., Chairman and CEO of Quest Diagnostics.

"Gazelle is secure and private, and it helps patients to make meaningful improvements to their health."

The application is available for download right now from Gazelle's website, coming as a free app to use together with your Quest Diagnosis account.
