In late April, I reported on how Leonardo DiCaprio was planning to raise about $25 million (€19.12 million) by means of a charity auction held in New York.

Well, the auction took place this past Monday, and sources say that not only did the actor succeed in meeting his fundraising goal, but that he raised significantly more money than he had initially expected and hoped.

In plain figures: Leonardo's environmental foundation is now $38 million (€29.27 million) richer.

While $31.74 million (€24.44 million) of this sum was raised by auctioning off various works of art, the remaining sum came from donations.

“All I can say is thank you, thank you, thank you,” DiCaprio reportedly said when the auction ended.

The actor and several other conservationists must now decide which green causes are the ones most in need of funding, and offer them their support.
