Last week, the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) announced that the scientific community was 95% sure that climate change and global warming were man-made phenomena.

Shortly after the IPCC made this announcement, Leonardo DiCaprio asked his fans to sign a petition demanding that world leaders immediately take action on climate change.

“The science is in: climate change is real and man-made,” the actor wrote on Facebook. “The debate is over. Spread the word and demand action,” he added, as cited by Ecorazzi.

The petition that the actor asked his fans to sign explains that, if human society is to put a leash on climate change and global warming, big oil companies and top polluters must no longer benefit from political support.

Besides, more funds must be invested in increasing clean energy production. Measures to curb greenhouse gases emissions must also be implemented.

“It is up to you to lead a ‘BIG fix’: B — Big oil and polluters out of politics, I — Invest in cleaner and smarter energy, G — Global, ambitious and binding deal to cut emissions,” the petition reads.

Furthermore, “Global warming is the most significant planetary crisis of our time and it demands courageous leadership. We call on you to meet this historic responsibility.”
