On Wednesday, Lenovo and Sprint announced that Lenovo’s line of ThinkPad laptops would support 3G and 4G wireless connectivity from the wireless carrier in the United States. According to Lenovo, all of its ThinkPad laptop models come with 3G connectivity, and the company also offers a wide range of 4G-enabled laptop models, such as the newly launched ThinkPad Edge machines, which were built specifically to fit the needs of small to medium business customers.

“Adding Sprint to our network of supported carriers gives customers even more 3G choice and expanded connectivity points with the fast speeds of Sprint 4G,” said Dilip Bhatia, executive director, ThinkPad Product Marketing, Lenovo. “Demand for constant, fast wireless technology has become an expectation, and it’s now mission critical for doing business today.”

As most of you might know, Sprint is working on offering 4G services to users in the US, and people in 27 markets in the country are already benefiting from Sprint 4G, and more markets will soon receive connectivity. Among the areas where Sprint's services have been deployed we can count Atlanta, Chicago, Philadelphia and Seattle, while markets like Cincinnati, Cleveland, Los Angeles, Miami, Pittsburgh, Salt Lake City and St. Louis, or Boston, Denver, Kansas City, Houston, Minneapolis, New York, San Francisco and Washington, D.C., will receive them during the ongoing year.

“Our business is about powering businesses through voice and data solutions, now and into the future,” said Danny Bowman, president, Integrated Solutions, Sprint. “It’s more than just the quality of the network though. It’s about having a broad range of devices that are certified to operate optimally on Sprint’s Now Network, and adding a trusted brand like Lenovo ThinkPad laptops gives businesses an unparalleled technology solution.”

According to a recent report from ABI Research, a number of around 2.5 billion connected data-centric devices are expected to be available on the market by 2014. The newly announced Sprint 3G and 4G connectivity is simple with Lenovo's devices. The laptop will arrive with a SIM card already installed, and users will have the Access Connection tool available for them to connect to the wireless network, providing support for both 3G and 4G connections.
