Lenovo has just announced its desktop PC based alliance with AMD. More precisely, Lenovo's new ThinkCentre A60 desktop series, available in a mini-tower or small desktop, will be power-driven by AMD's Sempron, Athlon 64 and Athlon 64 X2 dual core processors, as the workstation will also feature dual-core processing and improved virus protection as well as recovery tools.

"The AMD processors available in the ThinkCentre A60 translate to high speed, high performance CPU, ideal for today's heavy multi-tasking user. They are designed to support next-generation platform innovations such as AMD Virtualization and high-performance, unbuffered DDR2 memory," said Bob Brewer, corporate vice president, Desktop Division, AMD.

The A60 series come with enhanced functions, very different from Lenovo's latest notebook ThinkPad series - the G50. Consequently, the company's new desktops sport advanced graphics solution signed Nvidia -GF 6100 integrated graphics, serial ATA drive support, hard drives of up to 2 X 500GB, and DDR2 memory support.

In addition, the ThinkCentre A60 supports PCI Express graphics adapters for accelerated graphic capabilities for detailed design programs and streamlined video signal processing, as well as six USB 2.0 ports, front side audio ports and internal speakers. But the ThinkCentre A60 models also come with preloaded software tools such as the ThinkVantage Technologies, the Rescue and Recovery capabilities, which have been developed to help diagnose and recover from a virus or other software crash, even if the primary operating system will not boot.

The ThinkCentre A60 is available in Singapore, but also on www.lenovo.com at a starting price of $1,199 (including GST).
