It seems that IT companies are really looking for every possible way of keeping the damaging effect of tablets on netbook sales as low as possible, with Lenovo now playing the fast boot-up card.

Lenovo has a certain program for the Microsoft Windows 7 Operating System, known as Enhanced Experience, or EE for short.

This program was launched earlier this year (2011) and basically boosts startup and shutdown, among other things.

Lenovo's newest press release deals with the RapidBoot Extreme version of the software, which takes things up to eleven.

Basically, BIOS and hardware optimizations are done in order to ensure the fastest startup. Coupled with the speed of the Intel X25-M SSD (solid state drive), this allows the ThinkPad T420s to boot in under 10 seconds.

“Driving down boot time to sub-10 seconds on the ThinkPad T420s laptop results from applying precise, focused engineering to hardware and software interoperability,” said Dilip Bhatia, vice president, Think Product Group, Lenovo.

“There’s a high level of complexity involved in shaving off each second. We push the limits because every second counts when it comes to keeping users productive, starting from first boot.”

Even other applications will run better on this mobile computer, as well as one the ThinkPad Y570, set to debut in June. Business users will likely see some extra productivity from all this.

With a starting price of $1,679, the RapidBoot Extreme model of the ThinkPad T420s should start selling this month, if it hasn't already.

“Lenovo’s Enhanced Experience 2.0 for Windows 7 program is ideal for business users and consumers who value performance optimization, as well as faster start-up,” said Nick Parker, vice president, Worldwide Marketing, OEM Division, Microsoft Corporation.

“Now business users can extend the Windows 7 experience further with new ThinkPad laptop models that combine the benefits of faster boot up with features optimized for business.”
