The multimedia remote with keyboard and trackball from Lenovo wasn't launched with the usual “world's first” or “world's best” or any other such epithet. Actually, Lenovo didn't even issue a press release for this product, even though the 57Y6336 has already been selling for about a week. The device is designed as a means to enable wireless multimedia access even while the end-user is located as far as 10 meters away from the target machine.

The product is palm-sized and was noticed inside a Singaporean mobile shop. Of course, a quick online search revealed its existence on the lists of online retailers. The gadget is a combo between a wireless keyboard and a mouse (with the aforementioned trackball). The keyboard operates at a 2.4 GHz radio frequency and is compatible with the Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating systems. The remote uses a USB nano dongle and is capable of Windows multimedia control.

The device has not received any reviews but the actual specs make it seem as though the remote will be a fine addition to any home theater personal computer (HTPC). With the ten-meter long range, Lenovo's product will make media files easily and quickly accessible, and the keyboard will even allow for enjoyable web surfing from a distance, letting the user sit on a couch or have a snack while the PC performs an online search or plays through a movie's opening credits.

The Multimedia Remote with keyboard and trackball may operate under a temperature of at least 10 degrees Celsius, with the maximum temperature set at 40. The minimum operating humidity suggested is 8%.

Currently, the gadget is listed at a manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) of about $60 but, according to Engadget, “a quick Google for discount coupons” may enable its purchase for only $30. Regardless of the price, the Lenovo 57Y6336 will be accompanied by a one-year warranty.
