Today, Lenovo has announced the upcoming availability of its Lenovo S860 smartphone in India, after making the handset official in February, during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.

The new device has been announced as a mid-range mobile phone and will be marketed in India as such, with a price tag of Rs. 21,500 ($355/€257) attached to it.

The smartphone packs a 5.3-inch IPS touchscreen display capable of delivering a 1280 x 720 pixels resolution and is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6582 processor. Moreover, Lenovo has unveiled it with 2GB of RAM packed inside, as well as with 16GB of internal memory.

On the back, the new device sports an 8-megapixel camera with LED flash and full HD video recording capabilities, complemented by a 1.6MP front camera for making video calls while on the go.

The specifications list of the new device also includes the usual 3G, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth connectivity capabilities, along with a built-in GPS receiver with A-GPS.

Lenovo S860 is powered by a 4000mAh battery and packs dual-SIM functionality, with dual-standby. It arrives on the market with Google’s Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system loaded on top, paired with the phone maker’s own set of customizations and exclusive applications.

The handset measures 149.5 x 77 x 10.3mm and weighs 190 grams. It feels quite durable and nice to the touch, but it’s quite heavy and lacks a microSD memory card slot, so there’s no way to expand the internal memory than through cloud storage.

“The new range of S series smartphones complements the users’ aspirations. Sudhin Mathur, Director-Smartphones, Lenovo India, has commented on the launch.

“Bundled with stylish design, blazing fast processing speeds, and integrated Lenovo proprietary apps, these phones provide customers a great user experience without sacrificing performance.”

“We launched the S860 at MWC this year and the smartphone completes our range of products like P780 and S660 that provides users an incredibly long battery life. It was also recognized as one of the best launches from Lenovo at MWC this year,” Sudhin Mathur has also said.

Lenovo S960 is the latest S Series handset from the Chinese mobile phone maker to make an official appearance on shelves in India, as fonearena notes.

Starting today, mobile phone users in the country can pre-order the new device at the aforementioned price tag. It will be put up for sale on May 3 across 1,400 Lenovo exclusive stores and leading smartphone retail stores in India.
