Even though the netbook market share isn't growing as quickly as some PC suppliers would like, with Dell and HP even reducing their investments, the fact remains that, albeit slower, the market is still on the rise. Eager to take advantage of this growth as much as possible and, perhaps, further propel the segment, Lenovo has come out with its latest product, known as the IdeaPad S10-3s. The unit is described as a “stylish Internet Companion” for “consumers who are always on-the-go and want an immediate web browsing experience.”

The IdeaPad S10-3s is a very slim laptop, only 16mm in thickness, and is a new iteration of Lenovo's S10-3. Its screen measures 10 inches and can be either an LCD with a maximum resolution of 1,024 x 600 or one with 1,280 x 720. In addition, the actual performance specifications are slightly superior to those of other netbooks.

There is an Intel Atom N470 (1.83GHz) or N450 (1.66GHz) at the heart of the configuration, as well as up to 2GB memory, an HDD with up to 320GB storage space or an SSD of 16GB or 32GB. Furthermore, the mobile computer boasts 10/100 LAN, Bluetooth, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, optional 3G and the Active protection System (APS). APS was, in the past, only available on the ThinkPad line and some premium IdeaPad laptops.

The slim, entry-level laptop PC is powered by a three-cell or six-cell battery, depending on customers’ preferences, and will help users “enjoyably pursue all their computing needs” through a range of “neat surprises,” such as the 98% full-size chiclet keyboard, Dolby Headphone audio and software tools like DirectShare and MapLife. As for security, the netbook comes with the VeriFace facial recognition technology and the OneKey Rescue System.

Set to start shipping around the middle of the ongoing month through Lenovo's online store, the IdeaPad S10-3s will have a starting price of $379.99. Color options will include black, white and a “spring flower” cover pattern.
