Atrua Technologies, a Californian company that provides Intelligent Touch Control solutions, has recently announced that Lenovo's latest smartphone, the P960, is equipped with its mobile fingerprint technologies.

The P960 is Lenovo's first commercial handset to come with fingerprint biometrics, packing a fingerprint scanner on its edge. This gives users a guarantee that their "sensitive mobile content" is safe and can only be accessed by them. Another nice feature of Lenovo P960 is the VIP recording one, which can automatically record any call from any number users designate.

Measuring 117 x 58 x 17 millimeters and weighing 108 grams, the smartphone also offers: a 2.8 inch TFT display with 65K colors, a 1.3 Megapixel camera, Music player, pre-installed games and a 1760 mAh battery that can probably provide some good talk and stand-by times. The P960 only features dual-band GSM connectivity (900 / 1800 MHz) with GPRS; hence, it's targeted for the Chinese market only.

Talking about the new P960 and the collaboration with Atrua, Mr. Paul Wu, General Manager of Lenovo Mobile's Product Department, declared, "We evaluated a number of potential fingerprint solutions for this project, and found that Atrua delivered the superior combination of features and performance for mobile phones. Because of the Atrua sensor's small size, we were able to fit it conveniently on the edge of the P960".

Anthony Gioeli, Chief Executive Officer of Atrua, added, "We are pleased to see a recognized leader in fingerprint for laptops adopt our technology for their mobile phone and we are delighted to have the opportunity to support such a leading global manufacturer in their ongoing effort to bring greater levels of security and convenience to users of mobile devices".

The price of Lenovo P960 is not known for the moment, but it's probably not on the affordable side.

While Lenovo is best known for its laptops and desktop computers, the company (which bought IBM's PC division back in 2005) is also a major handset manufacturer, but its mobile products are mainly sold across China.
