Lenovo plans to extend its Flex 2 lineup with a new versatile machine

Remember the Lenovo Flex 2? This was a dual mode laptop offering customers the possibility to rotate the screen by 300° and use the product in multiple modes.

As revealed by Notebook Italia, Lenovo appears to have plans to extend the line, so we will soon see a business-oriented variation of the laptop, coming in the form of the IdeaPad Flex 2 Pro 15.

Sadly, the specifications aren’t yet available to us, but this doesn’t mean we can’t speculate, especially since we know this is going to be a business-centric device.

Currently, professional users have the opportunity to pick up the Yoga Pro 2, which arrives with a 13.3-inch display (and stunning 3200 x 1800 pixel resolution). The device is actually a premium version of the Yoga 13, so couldn't we apply the same pattern to the IdeaPad Flex 2 Pro 15?

The leaked images show a device reminiscent of the Flex 2 15, but with a slightly different arrangement of things. You can notice the power button resides on the right side, as well as two USB ports (one USB 3.0), HDMI, Ethernet connector plus Kensington Lock.

We can’t see the left part, but that’s probably where the audio jock, SD card and another USB port live. The current Flex 2, which is available on the market as we speak, also has a DVD burner, but don’t be bummed out that this is not the case with the IdeaPad Flex Pro 2.

The absence of the DVD burner is a good indication that the Flex Pro 2 will arrive with a sleeker form factor than before, which will constitute an important selling point for mobile/active professionals.

Sadly, the computing department is covered in the deepest shadows. Of course, we can hypothesize the professional offering will come with a high-res display and taking advantage of the Intel Broadwell platform.

If this turns out to be the case, the commercial launch of the product will most likely happen sometime in early 2015, as Broadwell products are expected to be widely made available next year.

Until then, we can only hope that Lenovo will bring its new pro offering at IFA 2014 and put it up on display for everybody to see.

Speaking of which, the device maker could also surprise us and pull a new gaming notebook out of the bag (IdeaPad Y70), the ThinkPad Helix 2 tablet/notebook hybrid and the Tab S8 budget slate.
