In a recent press release, Lenovo announced that it had welcomed former Acer CEO Gianfranco Lanci into its fold, offering him the position of consultant.

Well-known figures from top IT players seldom disappear from the field altogether when their collaboration with this or that company is terminated.

As such, when former Acer chief executive officer Gianfranco Lanci left the company, it was more or less certain that he would surface somewhere else in due time.

Sure enough, the man signed on with Lenovo, where he will act as consultant meant to push the worldwide consumer business forward.

"As a consultant to us, Gianfranco brings years of expertise and insights to Lenovo that will help us strengthen our growing global consumer business,” said Lenovo CEO Yuanqing Yang.

“Talented people are joining Lenovo because of our commitment to the PC industry, outstanding momentum and optimism about the future. We will continue to strengthen our company by building the best global team in the industry."

To start with, he will pay special attention to the integration of Medion, a German technology company that was bought in July.

Lanci will direct his operations not from Germany but from Italy, however, and will work closely with Lang and the rest of the senior leadership team.

"Lenovo is fully committed to the PC industry. We are very optimistic about its future, while making significant long-term investments in the mobile Internet. Because of this, exceptional people like Gianfranco are joining Lenovo,” Lang said.

“We have the right strategy, innovative products, strong culture, and a talented team. These key elements of our core competitiveness will help us to continue winning. Therefore, Lenovo is the best working place for talented people."

For those interested in background information, Lanci said that Acer let him go because the Board of Directors didn't agree with the changes he wanted to pursue. The subject is discussed here.
