BioWare, apparently not daunted by the torrent of gaming news streaming from the E3 trade show, has announced that owners of Dragon Age: Origins, its role playing fantasy game launched in 2009, will be able to purchase and play a new piece of downloadable content, called Leliana's Song. The company has not attached a launch date to the fresh content but expect to see it live on the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and the PC no later than July 6.

The official description for Leliana's Song shows that the player will take control of the beautiful young bard that hails from Orleais the player meets in a Chantry in Dragon Age: Origins.

The events depicted in the DLC will take place before those of the main game and will see Leliana work with her mentor, Marjolaine, in high stakes missions where she must work her beauty and charm to her advantage. Unfortunately, at one point, she is forced to fight and kill to get out of a tricky situation, an event, which will then haunt her as she fights the Darkspawn along the Warden Commander.

BioWare is saying that players will need to pay the equivalent of 7 dollars in BioWare points in order to play the Leliana centric content and that a unique reward will be unlocked when the DLC is completed that can be then used in both Dragon Age: Origins and in the Awakening expansion.

The developer has been putting out a stream of content for Dragon Age since the initial launch, aiming to keep fans glued as the company works on the sequel. Unfortunately, most of the DLC delivered until now was not particularly engaging but that could change and players could become much more interested if the studio begins to explore the backgrounds of all the characters than can join the protagonist in Origins and Awakening. Sten could prove especially interesting.
