A few weeks after Pirates of the Caribbean: Armada of the Damned was canceled, Disney, together with TT Games, have announced that a new game based on the property will be made, Lego Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game.

As you all know by now, Disney canceled the Armada of the Damned title after it was in development for quite some time and was getting ready to be released in the first half of 2011.

Now, fans of the beloved franchise will still receive a video game based on the movie series, but in a different form.

Traveller's Tales, the studio behind hit games like Lego Batman, Lego Indiana Jones or Lego Harry Potter (sense a pattern here?), has announced that it will also develop Lego Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game.

This new title will be based in the universe of the famous franchise, and feature storylines, locations and characters from the three movies that were made up until now.

It will have over 20 different levels, 70 playable characters and two player co-op.

Given TT Games' track record, expect many of the classic Lego video game tropes to be featured by this new title.

"The action-packed world of Pirates of the Caribbean is a perfect fit for Lego video games," said TT Games Publishing Managing Director Tom Stone.

"With so many wonderful characters, in such amazing environments, our teams are having great fun - and we're sure that players will, too."

Lego Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game will be released for the PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and DS in May 2011.

The release will coincide with the launch of another movie in the franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
