The Legend of Zelda is one of Nintendo's biggest gaming franchises and, with Skyward Sword set to be launched soon and fans celebrating its 25th anniversary, those who have created the game have taken to the medium of video to thank players for their support and dedication.

Speaking as part of a new video that the Nintendo team has put up, Eiji Aonuma, who is a producer working on The Legend of Zelda, said, “When Mr Miyamoto approached me years ago to design the dungeons for The Legend of Zelda; Ocarina of Time, I recognized that I was given the opportunity that might never come again in my life.”

He adds, “What I didn’t know is that I would be welcomed into what I believe to be the most dedicated, and passionate group of fans that I have ever encountered. I am truly humbled by your support and thank you all.”

Similar feelings were expressed by Koji Kondo, who is the main composer working on The Legend of Zelda.

Skyward Sword is now out on the Nintendo Wii home console and early reviews have been mixed, with some praising how faithful the game stays to the roots of the franchise while others bemoan the fact that Link and the gameplay mechanics have failed to keep pace with modernity.

It is widely believed that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is the last big release coming from Nintendo for the Wii, with the company now shifting most of its resources to create games that will accompany the launch of the new Wii U.

The new platform, which will deliver a new controller, touch screen powered, and more computing power, will probably launch during the summer of 2012.
