The highly-acclaimed action RPG Legend of Grimrock is about to make its debut on iPad. The 3D grid-based, real-time dungeon-crawler has just entered closed beta testing, and if everything goes according to plan, it should be released very soon.

The beta version of Legend of Grimrock features all the content that’s already available on the PC, which means it’s playable from start to finish. However, the purpose of the closed beta is to pinpoint any bugs or issues that might still affect the game.

Some balancing changes and polishing is being done during the closed beta as well. Only a select numbers of players will have access to Legend of Grimrock closed beta, as developer believe that “they can personally interact with the testers much better and thus get better and more accurate feedback.”

According to Almost Human, developers of Legend of Grimrock, the game should be released this spring, though an exact launch date will be confirmed later on.

In order to celebrate the beta, developers have released a first look video where fans get a glimpse of the gameplay on iPad.

Legend of Grimrock 2 beta is expected to drop this month

In other news, Almost Human announced that the Mac version of Legend of Grimrock 2 is still in development and it might be completed soon.

For the time being, the game is waiting for the last set of optimizations and compatibility testing. In particular, the game’s new OpenGL rendered still needs a performance improvement or two.

Almost Human states that their DirectX version of the renderer has been much thoroughly optimized, so additional optimizations might be needed for OpenGL to achieve good frame rates.

Developers expect to be able to release a beta sometime this month, which will be accessible by all those who own the game on Steam. The full release of the Mac version will arrive in March.
