The development team at Almost Human announces that its upcoming Legend of Grimrock 2 is in beta stage and that the studio is now polishing the experience and aims to deliver solid balance and find the right gameplay parameters before launch.

The company is also delivering a teaser trailer for the game, which should give fans of the first title an idea of what they can expect to experience in the sequel.

The official announcement states, “It’s going to be a closed beta again, sorry. Closed beta worked really well with LoG1 and we’re looking to repeat the process. By giving beta access to a carefully selected group of people, we can personally interact with the testers much better and thus get better and more accurate feedback.”

Almost Human also says that getting through Legend of Grimrock 2 will require about 25 percent more time than for the original game, although playtesting is needed in order to get a better idea, and the number might be changed as the beta progresses.

The studio says that memory and performance optimization and the delivery of a full tutorial are at the top of the list of changes being implemented at the moment.

Legend of Grimrock 2 is designed to once again take players to a dark dungeon and will ask them to think strategically and tactically in order to get past enemies and puzzles while commanding the four characters that can be created from scratch.

Almost Human notes that the new title is designed to improve on all the elements of the original that fans found unsatisfying, including combat and item management.

At the same time, the company is preparing a new series of twists to the traditional formula and they are rather mysterious about the new challenges that gamers will have to face as they try to exit the dungeon.

The studio believes that, after a little more testing in beta, it will also be ready to announce the launch date for Legend of Grimrock 2, which was initially set to take place in late 2014 or in early 2015.

Almost Human is also apparently planning another big surprise for fans, but it would not offer any details about it.

In the meantime, fans will be able to play an iOS version of the first Legend of Grimrock, which is being created by Juha Pinola and will introduce a number of new mechanics in order to make sure that the experience is easy to play on a touchscreen device.
