The development team working on Legend of Grimrock 2 is ready to announce a new set of features for the coming old-school dungeon crawler, explaining that fans of the first game will be able to get an upgraded experience from the sequel.

In an official blog post, they explain that the Isle of Nex, the location for the new adventure, has been designed to introduce a number of outdoor locations, while keeping intact the mystery and danger from the original.

The studio states, “the island is the perfect microcosm, where the party may explore dark woods, misty swamps, underground tunnels and ancient ruins without need to travel great distances. For us, an island is the perfect ‘dungeon’ with a welcome variety of different types of environments.”

Legend of Grimrock 2 will feature new types of puzzle mechanics and it seems that players will have to compete with another entity to solve them.

The way monsters behave during battles has also been changed.

The development team says, “monsters are now smarter and they know how to use their larger numbers to their advantage. The repertoire of tricks they know has been expanded greatly. For example, some monsters can call other monsters for help and can use group tactics against you.”

Legend of Grimrock 2 will include both new enemies and favorites from the first title.

The dungeon crawling experience will also benefit from an expanded character skill system and from more items, many of which have an alternate power that can only be used by an appropriate character class.

Spell casting and potion creation is also being improved in order to give players more time to focus on the game world and on the challenges that he needs to overcome.

The Legend of Grimrock universe will also get access to a video series from Wayside Creations, the makers of Fallout: Nuka Break.

The game is expected to launch on the PC this year.
