After Valve will launch Portal 2, the development team will release a brand new downloadable content pack for Left 4 Dead 2, its extremely popular first-person zombie shooter.

Valve is hard at work completing and polishing Portal 2 for its release in April, but has now taken the time to announce that it's also going to release some new downloadable content for its most recent game, Left 4 Dead 2.

According to the company, the new DLC is set to include the remaining three maps from the original Left 4 Dead, as well as a brand new community map, which is in testing stage.

The level is called Cold Stream, and is being worked upon by Matthew Lourdelet, who Left 4 Dead fans will remember from the popular 2 Evil Eyes campaign.

The new map is going to be put up for beta testing soon enough, so that the community will have a say in its design process.

The remaining campaigns from the first Left 4 Dead, Death Toll, Dead Air and Blood Harvest, will also be included in the DLC which, for the time being, hasn't received a proper name.

Respecting Valve tradition, the DLC hasn't even received a concrete release date, but players can expect it after the launch of Portal 2.

"The answer to when the DLC will be released is simple for now, sometime after Portal 2. Why don’t we set some date in stone right now? Because the real answer to when we are going to release something is always – when it’s ready," said the company on the Left 4 Dead blog.

Left 4 Dead 2 is still being played extensively online, both on the PC, thanks to Valve's Steam service, and on the Xbox 360, so the DLC is going to appear on both of the devices.

The title currently has eight playable campaigns, five that shipped with the game and three that were launched as downloadable campaigns, including the No Mercy level from the original Left 4 Dead.
