Black Cat Systems has released a new application for Mac. Morse Mania is a Morse code tutor. It is a Universal Binary (works on both Intel and PowerPC processors) and requires Mac OS X to run.

The application uses three modules to help you learn Morse code:

In Learn Characters, each Morse code character is displayed on the screen as it is being played. It helps you link each sound to the corresponding character, making it extremely useful when you're first learning the Morse code alphabet.

Guess a Character, Morse Mania's second learning module, plays code characters which you must type in using key of the character sent. Your score is displayed at the end of the exercise.

Copy Groups includes random, five letter Morse code character groups that are sent and displayed on the screen. Users select how many Morse code groups they want to have sent, and practice by copying the groups down. Afterwards, they are able to compare what they just copied to what was actually sent.

According to the makers, Morse Mania can also produce Morse code from a text file. The code is then played out through your computer's speaker, enabling you to create your own practice sessions, "or grab text from other sources such as newspapers/etc, to have a never ending supply of practice material," goes an example from Black Cat Systems. The Typing Window is another helpful feature. It allows you to type a valid character, which is immediately translated into the Morse code character, and ultimately played.

Morse Mania is available for free download HERE, as a 19-day trial version. You may choose to buy / register your Morse Code-teaching software at any time, while the trial version has all of the program's features included.

Black Cat Systems' programs are available for both Windows and the Macintosh.
