With the big wave of Pocket PCs that are just hitting the market almost weekly, one of the most important traits that should be checked is how well these are performing under various conditions. Also, the need of tweaking, overclocking and tuning some of the older devices, and even the new ones to a smaller level, has become more stringent and various applications promised to be able to do all those things.

But how can you really measure a Pocket PC's performance after making important adjustments or overclocking different components of the device? The answer is "benchmarks." Developed by Wizcode, PocketPC Mark is such a tool that enables users to benchmark their device and find out how well theirs is performing before or after tweaking their Pocket PC.

PocketPC Mark has been developed with the intention of adding more benchmarks and has a modular structure. As more advanced Pocket PCs are being manufactured, more complex benchmarks will probably become a necessity and including this feature from the start is a really good choice from the developer.

Basically, the application consists of several smaller tests that can be done all at once or only a few of them. Still, the final result of the benchamark will need to include all the tests that have been embedded into the application. Most importantly, these results can be compared with other devices' benchmarks, so you can have an idea where your Pocket PC stands.

Some of these tests that have been included into PocketPC Mark benchmark: memory and cache latency and bandwidth benchmark; CPU Dhrystone Benchmark; CPU Whetstone Benchmark; Memory Speed Benchmark; File System Benchmark; Storage Cards Benchmark; Graphics Benchmark. If you choose the do all the tests included, you will get detailed results for each test, as well as a final score that will feature all these results. PocketPC Mark is one the most useful benchmarks on the market, as it's easy to use and has a very intuitive interface. You can check out the demo version or get the full version for only 6.95USD.
