Microsoft might be working on new Task Manager app

Microsoft is expected to launch a new Windows 10 Technical Preview build in the coming days, and while interest in this new release is growing every hour, more leaked screenshots reach the web via unofficial channels.

This time, a screenshot allegedly showing Windows 10 build 10020 claims to be revealing a brand new Task Manager app that could be implemented in the operating system for more control over running processes.

At this point, it's not very clear if this Task Manager could be released to insiders as part of the next build, but if the screenshot is real and the feature is indeed part of Windows 10, there's no doubt that we will all have the chance to try it out at some point in the future.

A new Modern app

While this screenshot has been leaked by Chinese sources, the content it reveals is in Russian, but it's still good enough to show us the design of the new Task Manager.

At first glance, it might seem like Microsoft is pushing Task Manager to the same Modern app look like a number of other apps, in an attempt to give the touch-optimized environment a much more important role in our work.

The new Task Manager appears to be using a dark theme, with the same hamburger icon in the top left corner, just like a number of other apps that have recently been implemented in Windows 10.

It is expected to provide pretty much the same details as the desktop version of Task Manager does, including info on the running processes, CPU and memory usage, control of startup items, and services information.

At this point, the new Modern Task Manager seems to come with a rather limited number of features, but if it's here to stay, there's no doubt that new options would be added soon.

Build 10020 is not part of the fbl_impressive branch that's going to bring us the next Windows 10 release, so it's very unlikely to be the version scheduled to roll out this week.

And yet, there's hope that all these changes could be part of the upcoming release too, but it all depends on how stable all these new features actually are right now in order to make them available for insiders.
