Paradox Interactive has announced that it is partnering up with developer Fatshark in order to publish its first console-based videogame, Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West, a third person shooter set to allow gamers to play a gun slinger when it is released at some point during the first quarter of 2010. At the moment, neither the publisher nor the developer are saying exactly on what gaming console the title will arrive.

Lead and Gold will offer four playable characters, each with a distinct set of abilities and weaknesses that will deliver very different gaming experiences. Each of them will gain new powers as the experience progresses in order for players to be able to try out fresh tactics and adapt to the various challenges that the game throws at them.

There are also plans to incorporate cooperative play, which will reward those players who function as a team through something called the Synergy system. The overall theme of the videogame will be based on the Wild West but the team plans to add their own touch, creating a more stylized view of the era.

Fredrik Wester, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Paradox Interactive, stated that “We’ve said all along that for the right title, we’d jump on the opportunity of going console and when Lead and Gold crossed our path, there was no turning back. The team over at Fatshark is very experienced and has done an excellent job. There’s ample opportunity to roll this out on several different platforms, including [the] PC.”

Traditionally, Paradox has been known for creating complex grand strategy titles, like the Europa Universalis series or the Hearts of Iron franchise. Lately, the company has also begun working with other developers in order to expand the type of videogames it is offering to players.
