LeTV is prepping two phones with a premium design

Competition in the Chinese mobile ecosystem is getting fiercer and fiercer, as this week local video content provider LeTV has announced it is planning to expand its product portfolio to include smartphone models.

The decision is the latest proof of the growing overlap trend between the entertainment industry in the country and technology platforms. In China, 60% of people access content via mobile devices, including tablets and phones.

Well, it appears that LeTV is not planning to make its debut with a boring mid-range phone, but it will do it in style with two behemoth Android phones.

One of them will be running Qualcomm’s controversial Snapdragon 810 platform, while the other will have MediaTek’s new MT6795 platform on the inside (announced as the Helio X10).

Even though the Samsung Galaxy S6 has barely made it out into the wild, it appears the handset will soon be faced with some serious competition.

LeTV's upcoming phone will be a monster, like the Galaxy S6 / S6 Edge

LeTV’s upcoming phone with a Snapdragon 810 inside has just scored pretty big in AnTuTu benchmark, almost as high as the Galaxy S6.

The phone will supposedly arrive with a 5.5-inch 2K display, 4GB of RAM, Hi-Fi-grade audio chips and a consistent 21MP camera on the back.

In AnTuTu, the phone scored a massive 63,350 points. A few days ago, we saw Samsung’s Galaxy S6 Edge score an impressive 69,019, basically tearing away through the competition and leaving behind products such as the Meizu MX4 and Galaxy Note 4.

However, there’s a caveat to point out. It seems that the LeTV unit that got benchmarked was running on a 1080p display. After being bumped to 2K, performance levels were reduced a little bit to 55,044, but that’s nothing short of impressive.

The AnTuTu results for the MT6795-powered version also made their way online, showing results of above 50,000 points.

The entertainment company is yet to officially confirm any of the details related to the phone, but as Gizmo China points out, one of LeTV’s officials has taken to Weibo to reveal that the new phones will have a premium all-metal design.

There’s also a teaser image attached to the post, which indicates that the company’s new phones will heavily copy iPhone 6’s look.
