Americans sure love the sports they’re good at and basketball is one of the most popular in the country. No surprise then that NBA star LeBron James is one of the hottest subjects of the moment there. He is currently weighing in offers from several teams for the next season and people are dying to know where he’s headed next. But while they’re waiting on his decision they can now follow him on Twitter in the hopes of being the first to know.

The basketball star has now joined Twitter after the NBA even bought a Promoted Tweet dedicated to him. Twitter was already abuzz over him and this only fuels the fire. The account, @kingjames, has been verified, meaning that it’s legitimate. In fact, Twitter’s own Sean Garret welcomed the King with the tweet: “Long live the king.... Welcome Lebron -- aka @kingjames.”

James hasn’t been particularly active having tweeted only once to announce that he has joined Twitter. “Hello World, the Real King James is in the Building ‘Finally’. My Brother @oneandonlycp3 gas'd me up to jump on board so I'm here. Haaaa,” he said.

That hasn’t stopped hundreds of thousands of Twitter users from following him, though, and his account now has more than 212,000 followers. The number seems to be growing rapidly so it’s safe to assume that Twitter is very interested in the subject. Of course, with more than 100 million users in total, these kinds of follower numbers may not be as impressive as they once were.

Earlier this week, the NBA bought a Promoted Trend, “LeBron James,” which seemed like an odd move. It’s not as if he needed to be promoted, clearly he is doing very well by himself. In fact, the NBA used the trend to advertise its website, for those looking for the latest news on the player.
