Singer LeAnn Rimes is this month’s cover girl for Shape magazine, rocking a red two-piece swimsuit, some serious abs and a very toned body. The same issue also sheds some light on her typical workouts and how exercise helps her cope with stress.

Rimes is often seen out jogging, either in the company of a friend or on her own, which speaks volumes about her dedication to staying in shape.

However, she tells the aforementioned magazine, exercise means for her more than just a means for looking good, because it also helps her cope with stress.

To working out more, Rimes also owes a more defined body – and certainly better looking curves, for which she can’t but be grateful.

It’s not an easy job, though, even if she’s gotten to a point where breaking a sweat is part of a routine.

“I feel like my body is changing and that I’m growing up into a woman. I probably weigh about 6 pounds more than when I shot that cover, but my body fat is the lowest it’s ever been,” the singer says of how working out has impacted her body.

“I’ve gained a lot of muscle, and I feel like I have more curves too. […] I’ve taken up weight training three or four times a week, and I do a lot of squats,”

“I’ve also been doing more cardio, even though I absolutely despise it. I try to get in a good 20 to 25 minutes before I do anything else; if I don’t do it first, it won’t happen,” says the star.

Another thing she reveals for Shape is that she and current beau Eddie Cibrian are in the habit of working out together, though not when it comes to weight training because he thinks her routines are “too hard.”

People should not waste the time they have at the gym talking on their phones, LeAnn says, which is why she’s dead serious when it comes to her workouts because she knows she’s putting in the effort for her health and her body.

Then, she gets to reap the benefits – and there’s plenty of those, she promises.

“Going to the gym and punching out some of my aggression on a pair of mitts has been a lifesaver. Sometimes I felt so depressed I didn’t want to get out of bed, so just getting to the gym – even for a few minutes – was a big accomplishment,” the singer reveals.

“It really did make me feel better and kind of saved me. It gave me a bit of sanity. Even now, on days when I’m really frustrated, I’ll walk into the gym and say to my trainer, ‘We’re boxing today. For an hour. I need to hit things’,” she adds.
