This year, Super Bowl commercials are all about the past. From ‘80s sitcoms reunions to ‘90s reference films, they are all coming back from the past to sell us products. Korean car manufacturer Kia has partnered with Lawrence Fishburne to bring back the “Matrix.”

Their commercial called “The Truth” plays on the iconic scene from the film, where Neo was forced to choose between the red pill and the blue pill in order to wake up to reality. In the ad, Morpheus with his iconic sunglasses offers a blue key and a red key to an unsuspecting pair at a valet parking.

Of course, from here, things take a wild turn as Lawrence breaks out in an opera version of “Nessun Dorma” and alters reality for everyone except the couple in their Kia sedan who, according to the tagline, “Challenge the luxury you know.”

To some, such blatant use of iconic movies is tasteless, while others enjoy the reference. What's your opinion? Has Fishburne sold out by making this commercial or is he actually paying tribute to the original movies while still making a buck.
