Social media has played a major role in the Lauderhill Mall brawl in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, authorities say.

As I wrote, more than 100 teens, with some sources citing 200 to 300, have come out to the Dollar Store in Fort Lauderdale for a massive riot.

The brawl then moved to the parking lot of the local mall, but witnesses said that only 15 to 20 people were actually fighting.

According to the Christian Science Monitor, the teens were called in via Twitter and Facebook messages.

"Whatever pressure you had against anybody, you had to come out today," the message said, according to one teenager who did not wish to identify himself by anything than the initial "D."

Police initially thought that the riot was brought on by the Trayvon Martin murder trial, but they could not find any evidence to corroborate the theory.
