Not the first or the last of many reports based on information from "reliable sources"...

LoopRoumors has published a report based on information from "a reliable source" that gives a precise date for the release of the next major upgrade of OS X. Previous reports had indicated that the new update, Mac OS X 10.4.4, would come out in the middle of December. Obviously, the middle of decemebr has long since come and gone and the new version of OS X is not here.

According to the report, 10.4.4 will be the first release compiled specifically for Intel processors, and will be available on January 10th.

"The update is said to consist of 120 bug fixes with targeted areas that include iPod integration, Audio, AppleScript, Bluetooth, CoreImage, Dashboard widgets, DVD Player, iMovie, GarageBand, Graphics (specifically Quartz), Graphics Drivers, iChat (specifically Video Conferencing), Safari, Sync Services and Spotlight."

Interestingly enough, Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Computer, is scheduled to hold an opening keynote address for the Macworld Conference & Expo in San Francisco on Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at 9am PT. Coincidence, speculation, rumor or fact? Like with so many other pieces of information floating about with rumor-become-fact status, there is no way of knowing until the 10th of January.
