Shuttle has been making small form factor PCs, barebone or otherwise, for a long time now, so it wasn't overly strange when the SH61R4 XPC made it out of its labs.

Small form factor personal computers can be seen as minimalistic computer systems, and barebones take things to a sort of extreme, since they don't have all parts of a standard system, not by default.

The latest device of this sort was put together by Shuttle, a company known for such things as H3 6700P workstation and many of these very barebones.

Now, a new product has been detailed, bearing the name of SH61R4 XPC, obviously a part of the same XPC series as the SX58H7 Pro XPC LGA 1366 barebone.

It is made with support for Intel's Sandy Bridge series of central processing units (the second generation of Core units), thanks to a motherboard powered by the H61 chipset.

One PCI Express x1 slot is present, as is a mini-PCI Express x1 slot and a PCI Express x16 slot, the last one for an add-in graphics card.

Meanwhile, up to 8 GB of RAM (random access memory) can be added, thanks to the pair of DDR3-1333 slots present on the mainboard.

Furthermore, two USB 3.0 (SuperSpeed) ports are present, as are four SATA 3.0 Gbps ports, for HDDs/ODDs.

Speaking of optical disk drives and hard disk drives, the case of the item, measuring 32.5 (L) x 21.5 (W) x 19 (H) cm, has one 5.25-inch drive bay and two 3.5-inch bays.

Shuttle made sure not to forget about cooling either, implementing the I.C.E. (Integrated Cooling Engine), which has a heatsink, heatpipes and a SilentX fan with a diameter of 92mm.

Other specifications include Gigabit Ethernet, 5.1 channel audio, a pair of DVI outputs, two USB 3.0 ports and a power supply with an output of 250 W.

The price is of 172 Euro (without VAT) and online stores should list the newcomer soon, if they haven't already.

"With its all-round compatibility, its performance can be adapted at any time to suit individual needs," says Tom Seiffert, Head of Marketing & PR at Shuttle Computer Handels GmbH. "The R4 model also has the same front panel as the J4 that allows for creating personal front designs easily."
