Publisher THQ and developer Relic have announced that they will be launching a content pack for their strategy title Dawn of War II: Retribution, specifically aimed at the Last Stand mode, set to arrive on the PC on April 6.

The update does not seem important at first sight, adding twelve new Achievements linked to the Steam digital distribution service, but those who play Last Stand will understand their importance when hearing that each of them will allow the gamer access to a new piece of wargear.

This means that each of the six heroes that can take part in the Last Stand mode will be able to equip two new weapons of war, increasing the number of tools they have to withstand the enemy onslaught.

The Last Stand was not initially a part of Dawn of War II, but it proved very popular after Relic introduced it for free in an update.

The mode allows three players to choose a hero, equip him with unlockable gear, and they work together to take out as many waves of enemies as they can.

A new map for Last Stand was introduced in Retribution, but new weapons were also sorely needed to add some variety to the mode.

Relic has not talked about any plans for downloadable content for Dawn of War II: Retribution, but the fact that it is introducing more wargear might mean that in the future the company might also deliver a third map for Last Stand or even a new set of rules for the existing maps.

Retribution introduces the Imperial Guard to Dawn of War II and allows the player to control six different races both in single player and in multiplayer.

Relic has already announced plans to develop and launch another game based on the Warhammer 40,000 universe, probably coming in late 2012 or early 2013.
