Metallica's drummer isn't very good

Music titles are all the rage nowadays as they offer all sorts money-making possibilities to the companies responsible for them. Profit is not only generated by the sales of the games, but also from peripheral instruments and, most importantly, from selling new tracks via DLC.

Another interesting way to turn out a big profit is to brand a slightly modified version of an old game with a popular band. Such is the case with Activision which, after Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, launched, in North America, a Metallica-branded version of the latest iteration in the franchise, GH: World Tour.

The game promises to bring, besides the features already present in World Tour, new innovations such as an Expert+ difficulty setting for the drums alongside an extra bass pedal. The drummer of the famous rock band, Lars Ulrich, has recently talked about the virtual drumming experience in the game, admitting that his two children are more skilled than he is.

“I look like a complete [...] klutz because I can drum them in real life, but obviously there are slight modifications when it’s transcribed for the game,” said Ulrich. “I have it inbred in me how to play these songs, but then I have to sit and look at little dots on a screen and try to figure out how to play it the way it’s transcribed. Meanwhile, my 10-year-old and my 7-year-old are shredding on the guitars. It’s kind of [ironic], sitting there, with my 45 years of semi-glory, and getting toasted by my kids.”

Lars Ulrich has already confessed to his inability to play music games, as he even resorted to cheating in order to show his kids that his famous band does have tracks in games such as Guitar Hero or Rock Band.

Hopefully, all of those gamers who will master the Expert+ setting will be satisfied that, at least on the virtual stage, they are better than Metallica’s Lars Ulrich.
