This has been a really slow week, with every relevant company in the IT industry holding off until IFA 2013, so we have to make do with unorthodox topics.

Today's episode? Large format printers. It looks like their situation isn't depressing anymore.

In fact, for the first time in four years, they are expected to record an on-year growth.

The last time was in the fourth quarter of 2010, when US and Japan posted improvements.

"While the worldwide LFP market is mature, we do see pockets of growth opportunity that can be very lucrative in the eco-solvent based printers segment. We expect vendors to introduce new products soon to target these emerging markets," said Phuong Hang, program manager at IDC.

In 2Q 2013, the market showed a drop of 4.2%, to 73,000. In Q3, US and Japan showed a growth of 5% and 4.2%, respectively.
