During E3 2014 this week, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have officially confirmed that they're going to release a sequel to Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, in the form of Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, which boasts four-player cooperative action and will debut soon on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light was a delightful isometric action adventure experience that was originally meant to remind fans of the Tomb Raider series just how impressive protagonist Lara Croft is, until the reboot eventually appeared.

Now, it seems that the successful downloadable game has kicked off a spinoff series, as Crystal Dynamics will continue the franchise with a new game called Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris.

In the new adventure, up to four players can team up and go on an epic adventure inside a mythical temple dedicated to the Egyptian god Osiris. Lara Croft must team up with another rival explorer called Carter Bell, but also with two other Egyptian gods, in the form of Isis and Horus, and work together to stop Set from destroying the world using his vast army of minions.

"Featuring stunning visuals and a brand-new story, players must work together to explore the temple, defeat hordes of enemies from the Egyptian underworld, solve devious puzzles, and avoid deadly traps. All the while, players will compete for treasure, powerful artifacts, and ultimate bragging rights."

According to Crystal Dynamics, the positive reception of Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, coupled with the appearance of the PS4 and Xbox One consoles, means that the new game can deliver a high-quality experience despite being a downloadable digital title.

"We are excited to expand upon Guardian of Light’s legacy with an entirely new adventure, and challenged ourselves to create fun new ways to play. Four-player co-op in Lara’s world combined with Crystal Dynamics' high production values are being brought to a new generation of platforms and we are excited for more friends to share in the adventure together," the studio said.

The new game will see its cooperative mode work both online and offline, according to Square Enix, and players can choose to work together or compete in terms of collecting items, hidden secrets, artifacts, or weapon unlocks.

Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris will also take full advantage of the power of the PC, PS4, and Xbox One to eliminate loading times and feature hundreds of collectibles and treasures.
