A lane on Interstate 79 in West Virginia has been shut down on Sunday over an incident involving spilled Lego pieces.

At 5:15 p.m., police shut down the portion of the highway, as the pieces could turn the already damp road quite slippery and cause accidents.

The incident occurred around mile marker 117 in Harrison County, writes C Net. Even though it may not look that way, the large number of bricks seen on the road all came from one vehicle.

It turns out that the commotion was caused by a mother whose 11-year-old son's Lego bricks got spilled on the highway. She had large containers of Lego pieces in her vehicle, and has since apologized for stopping traffic.

“They fell off strap came loose he cried it seemed like forever but I tried to recover as many as I could cause I don't have the money to buy him anymore,” Tiffany Lantz describes on Facebook.

[Update, March 7 2013]: A previous version of this news blog mentioned that the spill occurred in Virginia. As one of our readers mentions, it is, in fact, West Virginia.
