14 DAY TRIAL // While she has a lot of men pining after her 60s looks, singer Lana del Rey has managed a feat that's becoming next to impossible in today's dynamic news environment. The 27-year-old singer has been engaged to boyfriend Barrie-James O'Neill since last summer. Us Magazine has the exclusive and reports that the “Summertime Sadness” hitmaker became engaged to be married during the course of last summer. O'Neill, who is a singer and guitarist in the Scottish band Kassidy, asked for her hand in marriage in June of 2003.
Admittedly, there were some rumors regarding the retro-glam singer back in July, when she and O'Neill were spotted house-hunting together, but no one managed to put two and two together.
Lana and O'Neill began dating in 2011 and the rocker has even been featured in some of Del Rey's videos. For example, in “Summer Wine,” O'Neill, Lana's real-life love interest, plays the same role on-screen.
What is interesting is that fact that Lana usually sings about loss of love in her songs, but in an interview from 2012, she admits that there are lots of songs on her albums that celebrate love, such as “Off to the Races” and “Born to Die.”
“When I found somebody who I fell in love with, it made me feel different than I felt the rest of the day. It was electrifying. That's what inspired the ‘Off to the Races’ melodies,” Lana said. “That's one of the times when you're feeling electrified by someone else and they make you happy to be alive.”
Though she might have found love in her personal life, Lana continues to maintain a brooding and dark sound in her music, which sets her apart from the current pop-rock trend.
Her latest effort is a track featured on Disney's “Maleficent” soundtrack called “Once Upon a Dream.” The film stars Angelina Jolie as an evil witch and is a modern re-telling of the classic tale of Sleeping Beauty.
