14 DAY TRIAL // Lamar Odom’s fall from grace is complete: after a very troubled year, the basketball star has been dropped by the New York Knicks for failing to meet the team’s requirements, it has been confirmed. At the very least, he must find some consolation in knowing his estranged wife Khloe Kardashian is feeling his pain.
Khloe and Lamar’s marriage came apart in a very spectacular and highly mediated fashion last year, as countless reports claimed that he had succumbed to drug addiction. His drug of choice was crack cocaine, but he was also drinking heavily and leading a very unhealthy and dangerous life, or so “insiders” told the tabs at the time.
After repeated attempts to get him in rehab, when she learned that he had also been cheating on her regularly, Khloe gave up on Lamar and filed the divorce papers right before Christmas. Talk about not wanting to check under the tree to see what Santa left for you.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, Lamar’s career also took a nosedive. With many insiders speculating that his time with the NBA was over because of the (alleged) raging drug use, he signed for a couple of months with a Spanish team, all the while saying he was hoping to return to the NBA, with the Knicks.
It’s not going to happen, Knicks president Phil Jackson says in a statement cited by Us Weekly.
“Unfortunately, Lamar was unable to uphold the standards to return as an NBA player. We found it necessary to free up the roster spot,” Jackson explains.
An insider reveals for the celebrity publication that, since the divorce, Lamar has been having serious trouble “rededicating” himself to the sport: it’s almost as if he lost all will to do his best to make his career go forward.
“There was a lot of hope there when he had his first initial talks with Phil [Jackson]. He gave him a real shot. He kind of threw this one away. He wasn't in it. He's not doing great. Admittedly, he's had a couple rough hands dealt with the family and the Khloe situation being pretty frequently thrown in his face,” a spy reveals.
Seeing his soon-to-be-ex-wife already moving on with her life (Khloe has been dating rapper French Montana since April) adds to Lamar’s suffering and inability to return to his normal life and see to his career.
On the bright side, if we’re to believe buzz online and despite the fact that she said on her reality show that she was positively done with Lamar, it seems that Khloe still has plenty of love in her heart for him – and, as such, it pains her to see him take such a huge professional hit.
After news of this broke, she posted to her Instagram a quote reading, “I would surrender my being to see you whole once more.” Khloe usually tackles personal topics using famous quotes, so chances are high this one is about Lamar and his current predicament.
